We seek researchers who want to formulate new security problems as well as evaluate existing ones. Members have backgrounds in security, cryptography, game theory, machine learning and AI safety.

We also build the reasoning and multi-agent systems needed to study security at the frontier of capability; the guarantees under study can only be evaluated against agents capable enough to test them.

Students

We offer regular, close supervision on ambitious, publication-oriented projects for senior undergraduates, master's students and PhD students, at UCL and Oxford. Student research with the lab has led to conference publications and prizes, including a Best MSc Thesis Award (Tony Hoare Prize) and a workshop Best Paper Award. Recent master’s students graduated with distinction and went on to DPhils at Oxford, a PhD at MIT, Google and J.P. Morgan. Students have interned at Google X, Google DeepMind, Microsoft Research and MATS, among others; several PhD students hold Cooperative AI Foundation PhD Fellowships. Christian has twice mentored scholars through the MATS programme, and welcomes MATS scholars who want to work on multi-agent security.

Christian designed and lectures Superintelligence: What do we actually know?, an 18-hour PhD-level course at the Oxford AIMS CDT that spans game theory, sociology and multi-agent security, with interactive labs.
